Eastleigh town centre is the commercial and civic heart of the borough, anchored by the Swan Centre shopping mall, the High Street, and Market Street. The town grew up around the London and South Western Railway in the 1880s and still has a strong railway identity — Steam Town Brew Co occupies a restored Victorian railway shed on Bishopstoke Road.
The town centre is compact and walkable — a complete circuit takes under a mile. The main retail offer is in the Swan Centre (M&S, Next, Primark, a 9-screen cinema, and bowling) plus independent shops and food businesses on the High Street and Market Street. A Thursday and Saturday market adds to the town centre offer.
The Point, Eastleigh's principal arts venue, is housed in the refurbished Victorian Town Hall and puts on dance, theatre, comedy, and film throughout the year. The town hall also hosts events and exhibitions.
Eastleigh Borough Council completed a pedestrianisation trial of the High Street and Market Street between Leigh Road and Wells Place, with a £1 million Levelling Up Fund investment. Public realm improvements including new planters and removable bollards were installed as part of the scheme.
The town has a direct rail link to Southampton Central (10 minutes), Winchester (8 minutes), and London Waterloo (approximately 75 minutes).
